Positive selection can create false hotspots of recombination.

چکیده
Simulations of positive directional selection, under parameter values appropriate for approximating human genetic diversity and rates of recombination, reveal that the effects of strong selective sweeps on patterns of linkage disequilibrium (LD) mimic the pattern expected with recombinant hotspots.

Effects of Demographic History on the Detection of Recombination Hotspots from Linkage Disequilibrium
In some species, meiotic recombination is concentrated in small genomic regions. These "recombination hotspots" leave signatures in fine-scale patterns of linkage disequilibrium, raising the prospect that the genomic landscape of hotspots can be characterized from sequence variation. This approach has led to the inference that hotspots evolve rapidly in some species, but are conserved in others...
متن کاملA new method for detecting human recombination hotspots and its applications to the HapMap ENCODE data.
Computational detection of recombination hotspots from population polymorphism data is important both for understanding the nature of recombination and for applications such as association studies. We propose a new method for this task based on a multiple-hotspot model and an (approximate) log-likelihood ratio test. A truncated, weighted pairwise log-likelihood is introduced and applied to the ...
متن کاملIdentifying recombination hotspots using population genetic data
Motivation: Recombination rates vary considerably at the fine scale within mammalian genomes, with the majority of recombination occurring within hotspots of ~2 kb in width. We present a method for inferring the location of recombination hotspots from patterns of linkage disequilibrium within samples of population genetic data. Results: Using simulations, we show that our method has hotspot det...
متن کاملDetecting Recombination Hotspots from Patterns of Linkage Disequilibrium
With recent advances in DNA sequencing technologies, it has become increasingly easy to use whole-genome sequencing of unrelated individuals to assay patterns of linkage disequilibrium (LD) across the genome. One type of analysis that is commonly performed is to estimate local recombination rates and identify recombination hotspots from patterns of LD. One method for detecting recombination hot...
متن کاملThe Impact of Recombination on Nucleotide Substitutions in the Human Genome
Unraveling the evolutionary forces responsible for variations of neutral substitution patterns among taxa or along genomes is a major issue for detecting selection within sequences. Mammalian genomes show large-scale regional variations of GC-content (the isochores), but the substitution processes at the origin of this structure are poorly understood. We analyzed the pattern of neutral substitu...
